Who else is trying to talk to the dead? If you are anything like the vast majority of people who enjoy our articles and comment on our content, the simple truth is that you probably have one BRAVE hand held high, right?
Nothing is more controversial than the topic of afterdeath communication, and as someone who has spent a fair amount of time researching the subject, and immersing myself in personal experiences, i can tell you first hand that you often have to wade through LOTS of “muck” to find the magic, mystery and miraculous.
But when you do……. your WHOLE world changes in an instant.
It’s true….and there is simply NOTHING more exhilarating, more exciting and more life changing than making authentic contact with a deceased loved one, or spiritual being on the “other side”.
So are ALL techniques for talking to the dead created equal?
Absolutely not. And not all methods work every time, for everybody. The key is to simply BELIEVE it’s possible. Open your mind. And your heart. You’ll be amazed at what will come in once you do.
With this in mind, let’s take a look at some of my FAVORITE techniques for making contact with the other side, and how just about ANYONE with the will to see it through can have a transformational, and transcendent experience with a wee bit of practice!
Mirror Gazing:
Yes, this is one of the oldest, (and little known) techniques for making contact with spirit. Any reflective surface is actually amenable to this, but mirror’s tend to work best. Remember, this is NOT some “new age” technique…as ancient civilizations, Native Americans and all sorts of other deeply spiritual cultures have been using water or “well” gazing and divination for the very same purpose, dating back to our earliest historical records. And Raymond Moody, the pioneering researcher and author of the famous book “Life after Life”, is SO impressed with this method that he’s actually built a “psychomanteum” where he demonstrates the incredible power of this process. (and wrote a book called “Reunions” highlighting the power of this practice)
Ouija Board Work:
Don’t laugh…this can be amazingly powerful. I was a skeptic, until I had an amazingly impressive experience that would be difficult to explain away using conventional science. (or the unconscious motor movement that most skeptics argue is happening here as well)
Seance’s:
Ever been to one? I have. And many of them are complete and utter duds. But all you need is ONE where incredible things happen to PERMENANTLY shape and change your belief system completely. And while it’s a good idea to have an idea “what you’re doing”……a good seance is a very powerful experience, and one where tens of thousands of ordinary people have had EXTRAORDINARY experiences with spirits, deceased loved ones and all sorts of ethereal entities and intelligence’s. (and that includes many ONCE skeptical scientists as well!)
Deep Meditation and Prayer:
Yes, this is a great opening to the infinite, and if you are committed, one of the very BEST ways to open yourself up to the magnificence of your true nature, and the enduring nature of ALL those you have loved and lost as well.
Psychic Mediums and Readings:
Probably the EASIEST way for ordinary people to have an immediate “glimpse” into the eternal nature of the soul. Many famous (and even more NOT so famous) psychic mediums have offered hundreds of thousands of us the HOPE and practical PROOF that our loved ones are with us always. My own interest (and belief) in the afterlife came about this very way….and one reading, almost 20 years ago totally changed my life, (and what I believed was possible) in less than 30 minutes.
If you are looking for the same “proof”, have an open mind and a curious spirit, the very SAME can (and will) happen for you, I promise!
What is a psychic medium anyway? Do they talk to the dead……are they simply putting me on? And how can I tell if they’re real or not before I hire one? In this article we are going to take a quick and insightful look at psychic mediums, and see how you can get a REAL reading, from an authentic energetic empath, quickly and easily and affordably to boot. Ready? Great…continue reading as we take a closer look below!

Any person who purports to speak to the dead…and offers REAL information that seemingly would be impossible to explain, any OTHER way than they are actually talking to the “other side”.
Honestly? Die hard (no pun intended..:-) skeptics like to say that mediums are simply “cold reading” or guessing. And truthfully, some are. (even maybe most) But the fact remains, there is UNQUESTIONABLY a large group of psychic mediums who have been studied, under the strictest possible conditions, and who are offering up information that is simply IMPOSSIBLE to explain away as fraud, guessing, or cold reading. (especially when the “client” is only offering yes or no answers, is on the phone many miles away, or sitting behind a screen or divider to make body language reading impossible as well)
Alternative NON Skeptical Explanations?
Stuff like “super-psi” – which many scientists believe are exceptionally advanced “psychic” mind reading abilities. Sounds pretty far fetched, right? It does…and it’s sort of funny that many ONCE skeptical scientists have to use this particular explanation, as an ALTERNATIVE to “talking to the dead”…..because the information many of these mediums are getting is SO amazing, they need to come up with some explanation that makes sense. (and they simply refuse to believe the obvious – which is actual communication with people who have crossed over and are STILL “alive” in a very real way!)

What really happens when we die? Do we float away…..fast and furiously to a bright and loving light? Or do we simply fizzle out in shock, fear and fright? The fact that people HAVE near death experiences is NOT in debate.
Ever since Raymond Moody’s seminal book ” Life after Life” 30 some odd years ago, the conversation about the NDE has become part of popular culture. (while actual Near Death Experience STORIES go back way….way well back beyond Ray Moody’s book!)
While some skeptics and doctors tend to believe that NDE’s are caused by a lack of oxegen in the brain…..many experiencers, and other researchers, scientists and otherwise believe it is a REAL experience happening “out there” rather than “in here”..:-) (as in….your brain)
What do YOU believe happens when we die? I’m curious to know. Here is a link and excerpt from a feature story on today’s online version of CNN – where they talk to a pretty compelling case that the NDE is as powerful, profound and as life changing as it gets!

Seemingly in good health and in good spirits, Geraghty was finishing up her late-morning run, transporting a student and teacher back to Newton South High School, when she realized she was in trouble. As she was pulling into the school parking lot, she began having sharp stomach pains. She was able to park her bus, but she kept feeling worse. The pain “went right up my arm and into my chest, and I said, ‘Uh-oh, I’m having a heart attack,’ ” she said. The teacher ran from the bus to get help. Newton South’s nurse, Gail Kramer, and CPR instructor Michelle Coppola arrived moments later with the school’s new automated external defibrillator.Geraghty, barely conscious, was fading fast. She was weak and having trouble breathing.
And then she went into full cardiac arrest.”Her eyes were wide, and all of a sudden she stopped talking to us,” Coppola said. “I grabbed the two pads, stuck them on her, started it up, and I’d say within 20 seconds, she had her first shock.”Coppola and Kramer performed CPR while they waited for paramedics. Video See an expert give a quick lesson in CPR »At that point, Geraghty says, her body died. She remembers watching the scene unfold — as if from above.”I floated right out of my body. My body was here, and I just floated away. I looked back at it once, and it was there.”Geraghty says she saw deceased loved ones, her mother and her ex-husband.’
“It was very peaceful and light and beautiful. And I remember like, when you see someone you haven’t seen in a while, you want to hug them, and I remember trying to reach out to my ex-husband, and he would not take my hand. And then they floated away.”Next, she says, she was overwhelmed by “massive energy, powerful, very powerful energy.”

Do ouija boards work? Or are they simply a Parker Brothers board game for silly people who believe in sensational things for no good reason? I mean, can you REALLY talk to the dead through using a ouija board, or is it all just a wild bunch of bull?
Filed Under: Personal (and Paranormal) Experience Revealed
Let me be honest with you. Completely honest, upfront and sincere. I had an AMAZING experience with a ouija board about twenty years ago when I will finishing up college. And I was a total NON believer. A skeptic through and through.
But this experience, had in those wild and woolly hours between "late night" and dawn…..totally transformed what I believed possible about the power of spirit communication, and the use of a simple wood board to make it happen.
Filed Under: Science, Skepticism and Silliness
Many scientists and skeptics will tell you that the people USING ouija board are moving it themselves. That the desire to WANT to believe that a discarnate "hand" i is behind the board is so strong, that we "trick" ourselves into believing the impossible. I say they’re wrong. I say they ALSO haven’t experienced it for themselves. For if they did…..they’d offer up a wee bit better of an explanation than people are pushing the planchette themselves, without realizing it.
Filed Under: The Science of Subtle Energies
There are some decent alternative explanations that get into the weird and wacky science of subtle energies, or even some super sub conscious style stuff that "could" be behind some of the more compelling cases. (I’ll grant that many ouija board experiences are wacky and without merit)
But for mine, and some of the others I’ve read about and seen…….the magic and mystery of the paranormal path seems like a FAR better explanation than the ordinary ones offered up by the skeptical and scoffing..:-)
Can we really talk to the dead? Do the deceased still have an opinion on what you should REALLY do with your life? To many people who read our blog ( and who email me religiously….no pun intended..:-) the answer is a resounding NO.
All mediums-ship – they say, is fraud. People who BELIEVE in psychic abilities? Gullible……or intellectual idiots. Ironically, NONE of the folks who tend to believe ever seem to leave us a comment, or send an email, letting me know that at least the SKEPTICS tend to be much more vocal in what they believe. (or more aptly and often – DON’T believe)
Here is an interesting (albeit slightly dated) article from 2001 on the jump in Americans who believe in after death communication. Interestingly, in just the 10 years between polls (gallups done in 1990 vs 2000) the INCREASE in belief in after death communication seems to have TRIPLED. (10% – 28%) Pretty interesting, don’t you think?
I wonder what caused such a huge bump in the belief in mediums and communication between this realm, and the next? Maybe the TV shows, and the popularity of famous mediums? Who knows…..but pretty interesting to contemplate. (as well as what the NEXT numbers will reveal in 2010)
Check out the full article at the link below – and if you are a BELIEVER, leave us a comment letting us know why!
Twenty-eight percent of Americans (up 10% from 1990) believe that people can hear from or communicate mentally with the dead, a new Gallup poll reports. Another 26% aren’t sure, but won’t rule it out. Half of all Americans believe in extrasensory perception. And everyone from Hillary Clinton to Nancy Reagan to Adolf Hitler are known to have consulted with psychics, famous and obscure.”These are not the Shirley MacLaines of the world channeling 3,000-year-old Assyrian warriors,” says Tom Smith, director of the General Social Survey at the University of Chicago’s National Opinion Research Center, which reports that roughly one in three Americans believe that they have personally communicated with the dead.”Clearly this is a phenomenon that is fairly common, and particularly common to those who have lost someone very significant to them.”"People not only want it to be true, they need it to be true. It’s the feel-good syndrome,” says longtime skeptic and magician James Randi, 72, whose standing offer of $1 million to psychics who can independently verify their “magic” has gone unclaimed for four years.
What is EMDR? Well, it’s actually Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming, and is a pioneering approach to induce healing through rapid eye movement techniques……which APPARENTLY, according to the doctor’s that practice it, often brings a full on “encounter” with a deceased loved one or relative.
Sounds pretty hokey, huh?
Think again! The Craig Hogan, the author of “Your Eternal Self” and very popular and respected writer on survival research and the paranormal is one of the authors, and the other, Dr. Allan L. Bokin, a very respected clinical psychologist who “discovered” and teaches the practice.
Anyway – there are thousands of people ( and a new documentary to boot) that describes how this process faciliates communication with the dead.….and it’s super interesting stuff that has convinced LOTS of skeptical folks.
Here is a great exchange on the topic on one of our favorite blogs – including some comments by Hogan himself, which is well worth reading if you are interested in the whole life after death stuff at all…;-)
Enjoy – and let me know your thoughts in the comments section below! Read the whole thing at the link after the jump!
Right now I’m reading one of the most interesting books I’ve encountered in quite some time — Induced After Death Communication: A New Therapy for Healing Grief and Trauma, by Allan L. Botkin and R. Craig Hogan.Botkin is a clinical psychologist who specializes in EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming.
The EMDR technique involves simulating the rapid eye movement characteristic of deep sleep in order to place the patient in a trancelike state. In this state of altered consciousness, the patient seems to be able to process the memory of traumatic events with extreme speed and efficiency.
Frequently patients who have been haunted by the symptoms of post-traumatic stress for years have been cured, or at least significantly helped, by a single application of EMDR.What Botkin found, quite by accident, was that when the EMDR procedure was modified in a rather minor way, patients would experience a strong sense of connection with a deceased friend or loved one, and that this experience was remarkably effective at healing grief.
Yes, near death experiences and their underlying reality ( or fantasy!) remain one of the most profound topics of conversation for people interested in “our” line of work..:-)
The good news? There are actually, as we’ve mentioned before…..some pretty important studies going on right now on testing the “survival hypothesis” using some pretty hardcore scientific methods of verification.
If these studies prove to be authenticated ( i.e. – people really DO see numbers, or things set up to “test” what happens in a hospital setting during a near death experience) it’s going to be pretty hard for the skeptical, to explain it all away as fraud.
Check out the short article below – and the link to Victor Zammit’s highly entertaining, but highly controversial website below. ( and you can also get his totally free ebook as well – which I DO recommend if you’re interested in the subject at all…which most of you, I would imagine are..:-)
Recently, several medical doctors such as Dr. Pim van Lommel (The Netherlands), Dr. Sam Parnia (UK) and Dr. Michael B. Sabom (USA) have carried out studies to determine if patients who have officially been declared clinically dead really can get Near-Death Experiences (NDEs). All of them conclude that NDEs do indeed take place among at least some of these patients. The researchers accept that consciousness is not destroyed when our brain stops functioning. They also accept that consciousness will probably continue exist after death, as in this sense, there isn’t any relevant difference between a flat EEG and brain death.Mainstream materialist scientists generally see consciousness as a byproduct of the activity of the brain. For the question of survival, it is therefore sufficient to show that the mind does not need the brain for its very existence.Near-death experiences and materialist theories of the mindIf we can prove that consciousness is present after the brain has stopped functioning, we have shown that materialism must be wrong. There are three strategies of people who want to avoid the ‘survivalist’ conclusion of recent NDE-studies.
Here is an interesting group of articles on psychic abilities, life after death and just how commonplace these sensational skills really are in ordinary people like you and I..:-) Can we all manifest psychic skills.….OR are these abilities reserved ONLY for the most talented and "special" seers out in the world?
This is obviously a topic rife with controversy and varying opinion – but check out the link below for more questions (and answers) about some of your most presssing psychic concerns. (not to say we agree with all of the replys of course – but they are interesting to read nonetheless!)
Q: TL Iwafuchi asks:
My mother predicted that she would die before my father, even though she was 59, and not ill. My father was 82 at the time. Mom said she was at peace with everyone and felt like she had accomplished everything in life that she wanted to do. She also told me some things about watching my son at age 13 for tummy troubles, and that my daughter would be very creative. She didn’t say a lot about me, except that my best and most successful years were coming. She was drinking at the time so I didn’t think much about the conversation. Read More
