Conscious Astral Projection – Can You Will Yourself to Have an Out of Body Experience?

June 3, 2009

Can you have a conscious astral projection experience or are the only REAL ones those that happen spontaneously?  This has been a pretty hot topic for many decades, and the more science begins to understand and accept the OBE as a “real” experience ( be it a brain generated event or a truly mystical one) there are even more questions arising as a result, than the answers you would expect.

I of course believe that willful astral projection is not only possible….it’s reasonably easy with practice.  Here is a good article from WilliamJames.Com ( a site dedicated  to the great 20th century philosopher, scientists and conciousness pioneer) on the OBE, it’s roots, and possible explanations.

Good stuff and you can check out the full story at the link below the jump.

Certain shamanistic conceptions suggest that our past thoughts and our mind have never left our body, for the simple fact that they have always been outside our body and our brain. They do not need to emerge from inside, because they have never been inside.

The shamanistic initiation makes the trainee simply aware that mind and consciousness are outside and above, and they have always been so. The initiation practices reawaken a corresponding state of consciousness, that gives the living awareness of this vision. The shamanistic conceptions and the converging descriptions of out of body experiences coincide with the notion that mind and consciousness are a prius in respect of the brain and the body — in other words, that brain and body evolve out of consciousness.

Astral projection is one of the most salient features of the mystical tradition underlying most of the major religions. In fact, anthropologists have found that OBE beliefs appear in about 95 percent of the world’s cultures.

Astral Projection Studies – More Tips, Tricks and Otherworldy Advice for Having Your First OBE

May 30, 2009

Here is an interesting series of blog posts and articles on astral projection studies, techniques and just simple tricks and tweaks that are proven to help newbies have their first out of body experience.

Some of the astral projection advice that is referenced here comes from some pretty powerful names in the OBE world – including Scott Rogo ( a long time investigator of paranomal phenomena and a well respected writer and researcher of the occult) as well as, of course, Robert Monroe, whose Monroe Center remains today one of the most well known institutes for spiritual study – specifically into altered states of conciousness.  ( which is pretty much why WE’RE all here reading this stuff to learn, right..;-)?

One of the chief barriers people learning to project face is fear. Many are afraid that they may die, or be harmed in some way as a result of their projection. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

The Cantebury Institute, reknowned for its occult studies, executed an experiment in projection involving over 2,000 people. None of them were hurt in any way by this, and now, three years later, none have complained of any newly arising problems.

There are some pretty good OBE tips here too – so check out the full post at the link below the jump….I hate the “black” backrground blogs cause they’re TOUGH to read…..but other than that one little minor quible, there is some great stuff to check out here for sure!

Once you are aware that you cannot be harmed by projecting, you should begin monroe’s techniques, step by step.Step one:Relax the body. According to Monroe, “the ability to relax is the first prerequisite, perhaps even the first step itself” to having an OBE. (out of body experience) This includes bothe physical and mental relaxation. Monroe does not suggest a method of attaining this relaxation, although Progressive Muscle relaxation, coupled with deep breathing exercises (inhale 1, exhale 2, inhale 3…. until 50 or 100) are known to work well.Step two:Enter the state bordering sleep. This is known as the hypnagogic state. Once again, Monroe doesn’t recommend any method of doing this.

One way is to hold your forearm up, while keeping your upper arm on the bed, or ground. As you start to fall asleep, your arm will fall, and you will awaken again. With practice, you can learn to control the Hypnagogic state without using your arm. Another method is to concentrate on an object. When other images start to enter your thoughts, you have entered the Hypnagogic state. Passively watch these images. This will also help you maintain this state of near-sleep. Monroe calls this Condition A.

Astral Projection for Beginners: How to Have Your First Out of Body Experience

Here is yet another interesting post from around the web on astral projection for beginners.  The author of this site has shared a whole host of different experiences, and perspectives on astral projection and the ethereal realms…many of which are WELL suited for beginning or novice projectors.

So if you’re still struggling to have your first experience, you may be very well rewarded by checking out some of his simple strategies.  You can access the entire site at the link below!

Ok, so your body is vibrating and you can lift your limbs; now you should start hearing popping, cracking, hissing noises. It can be one or many of these symptoms. I have also heard screams (ugh) and nasty noises, but I now just ignore them. Who knows what kind of parasites hang around our astral body, but I can tell you, they are harmless. So now that you’ve gotten this far, get out! I do this several ways. 1. Rollout (this is also the technique Robert Monroe used). I rollout by simply acting like I’m falling out of bed, as in rolling out of my body, onto the floor.

2. Arch my back and buck myself out. Sometimes if my head gets stuck I just "throw" myself out. This takes sheer will power.

3. Grab something solid and pull! It doesn’t matter how far away the solid object is, I think you’re basically using the solid object as a mental crutch to get out.

4. Rise and move. I surprised myself lately by just doing this passive technique. I "willed" myself to rise above my body and move onto the floor, which I did. I’m sure with time, it gets easier and easier, no matter which technique you use. I remember how I struggled over and over to get out of my body, but now, once the vibrating starts, I always say, "gosh, it’s so easy, what was I fussing over?

Astral Projection Steps

January 2, 2009

In our continuing look at astral projection tips from around the web, here is another website that details one particular persons approach to leaving her body and exploring the astral realms!

One of the most amazing parts of this adventure, is the realization that there truly are so many different paths to get to the same place, that it’s truly astounding.  Find a really good one for YOU….and then pursue it!

We recommend the tools we have listed here on our site, and think you’ll get great mileage out of them for sure – but we still look around at what others are doing, and bring that here for you as well!  Enjoy!

The Steps to Astral ProjectionStep One:

Managing the Physical WorldThis step is not necessary for astral projection but it helps to do the things stated below before a astral projection . Let me stress the fact that you do not have to do any of the things I will explain below and the only thing you will ever need to project is yourself and nothing more. (If you do not have yourself I would suggest a alternate past time.)The first thing to do is make sure that no one will disturb you. Tell them you are taking a nap, trying astral projection, or whatever comes to mind. It does not really matter what you tell them as long as they do not disturb you. I, myself had many experiences when some one would walk in while I was trying to project and it broke my concentration.

Now that you have made sure no one will bother you walk around your room and study it. During this time you should think about all your troubles and problems. Think of a solution to them (even if it is a temporary solution or a solution like aliens landing and they give you back your puppy which died). You do this so you can get all the surface thoughts out of your head. Once you eliminate distractions continue to step two.Remember that you could project with a million people circling around your bed and throwing insults and jeers. You just have to train your mind and then you can do anything.

“It all takes practice, practice, practice!”(the best words anyone ever said to me.)Step Two: Trancework and MeditationYou must have your body one hundred percent asleep while your mind is awake in order to project. And that is why you must slip into a trance. Astral projection is not something you can do right away. It takes time to project considering you are not one of those people who can get out on their first try (Which I only heard about by the way, during my many internet studies).
