Is Hereafter, the new movie starring Matt Damon, an ACCURATE portrayal of psychic mediums, or is the whole idea of people who are able to speak to the dead a silly myth?

Is it based on a true story? Is there any real EVIDENCE that mediums are real? Any of these questions sound familiar? If you are anything like I once was…..the idea that psychic mediumship, or any ability to communicate with spirits, seems SILLY and small minded, right? It wasn’t until I had my own experience, an inexplicable reading with a medium that DEFIED all conventional explanation, did my mind "open" to the idea that not only was mediumship TRUE……but that some part of us – a soul, spirit or consciousness that we all share, continues on after physical death.

Hereafter addresses a VERY controversial subject…….but one that great movies have neglected, in my opinion for FAR too long

The idea that there are mediums who speak to the dead has been addressed in many movies…..TV shows, and as we all know, lots of books and reality TV. But most of those programs aim to sensationalize, or even TRIVIALIZE what mediums really do…..and as someone who has had close to a hundred really GREAT readings, I find that disappointing. (I’ve also had a thousand BAD ones, in fairness as well…:-)

I liked Hereafter, for a whole bunch of reasons. I think it takes a serious look at mundane quality that many mediums share, and NOT the slick, polished and made for TV style salesmen (or women) that we often see portrayed in the media. (with the implication that these folks are more snake oil salesmen than genuinely gifted psychics….which I think is unfair, and sad)

It also showcases the STRUGGLE, that many mediums I’ve spoken to experience, insofar as they are conflicted about their gifts……not sure whether they are cursed or blessed, and often wish their connection with the other side, would dry up and disappear!

The Fact is…….

Many famous mediums throughout recent history, many you’ve never heard of….have felt the same way. Many have agreed to be studied by science, and subjected to a whole assortment and battery of tests, challenges and "prove it to me" experiments that have been designed to see them fail. And in the same breath….many of these mediums have been SO impressive, that they’ve forever changed the minds of some of the most SERIOUS scientists in the world….who much like myself, became converted from SKEPTIC to believer, on account of a multitude of magical, and magnificent readings they simply couldn’t explain away on their own.

For ME?

I love the fact that a major motion picture is out right now…..showing a true account, of the many facets of what life is like, as a medium who sees, senses and feels things the rest of us do not. Here is hoping to MORE Hereafter’s…..both in the movies, and in real life as well..;-)
