Is there an afterlife?
Is there any “proof” that we survive our physical demise? And what does religion have to do with it anyway? Does what I believe play a role in where I go? In this article we tackle the tough terrain of life after death, and reveal some shocking, but simple facts that many people are not aware of as well.
Ready? Great….continue reading as we take a closer look below!
Filed Under: The Weight of The Evidence is Overwhelming
Any individual story, anecdote or experience is really proof of nothing. But the overwhelming evidence for something, EVEN when science turns a blind eye, often is. What do I mean? Well….when you look at the individual elements of facts that “support” an afterlife, it’s often easy to dismiss and fantasy….or wishful thinking. But when you ADD all of them up, and look at them as a whole, they are amazingly evidential that something truly extraordinary happens at the moment of, (and after) physical death.
Some examples?
Near Death Experiences:
(people who have extraordinary experiences while “clinically” dead, often with no vital signs or brain activity for many minutes)
Out of Body Experiences:
(people who leave their bodies, and see things happening many miles away that are later validated – often called Astral Projection, which is usually thought of as the INTENTIONAL experience of learning to leave one’s body, rather than it happening spontaneously)
Crisis Apparitions:
People who appear to others in “spiritual” form at the moment of death, or severe trauma.
Many of these cases have been reported in wars, or when someone is struck with a unexpected trauma like a sudden heart attack or car accident….and “appears” to others many miles away to say goodbye
Death Bed Visions:
People who report seeing loved ones at their death beds, often “invisible” to others in the room (although….NOT always..:-) who have come to help them “transition” to the other side
After Death Communications:
(or ADC’s)
Very simply, these are more commonly thought of as “ghosts” – when someone who is LONG dead appears after their demise to you in physical, or energetic “form” to communicate something. (often is important….and other times can be trivial and re-assuring)
Mystical Experiences
:
The personal process of having something extraordinary happen that leaves NO doubt in your mind that you are NOT your physical body alone. Very powerful, very personal, and very transformational. (many religious leaders, icons, prophets and other figures throughout human history have based their entire theology on the mystical experience – Moses seeing the “burning bush” in the Old Testament being a textbook example of it’s power to change lives)
Reincarnation & Past Life Research:
The compelling cases of people who remember past lives in incredible and fascinating detail, speak foreign languages they’ve never heard, play musical instruments they’ve never seen, and do all sort of other amazing things that science can NOT explain under currently accepted “laws” of how things work
Mediums and Psychics who Talk to the Dead:
Yes, many are con’s, charlatans and money making scams….but MANY mediums are genuine, authentic and do AMAZING things that simply cannot be explained by conventional means. They SAY they are talking to the dead….and some of the most amazing cases would suggest that the dead most CERTAINTLY are talking back!
ITC and EVP:
Basically, electronic voice phenomenon or communication from the other side that’s “captured” using modern equipment like a basic voice recording from the “other side” or more sophisticated stuff like images and even phone calls from beyond. Don’t laugh…they are MANY compelling cases of this sort of thing, and some of the GREATEST scientific minds studied this with vigor, zeal and a FIRM belief that something truly transcendent was happening. (including great scientific luminaries like Tesla, and Thomas Edison, who was working on a device to “talk” to the other side prior to his death)
The bottom line?
In total, the evidence ALL supports that life is a continuous affair…and your soul has a lot more to say after this life is over..:-) Is this GOOD news? I think so! And a good reason to live a life that you can be proud of, and focus on the sort of stuff that’s TRULY forever. (the relationships you forge in this lifetime MAY last a lot longer than you believe..:-)

Yes I believe there is an afterlife. Its all about life lessons what you dont learn in this lifetime you will come back and learn in another life. I also believe you continue to learn in the spiritual realm untill you are reincarnated. We never stop learning. I allso believe in karma. If you create a really bad situation you either clear it in this liftime or the next.
Thanks, Deborah……for the comment! I agree with much of what you said above, but surprisingly…….it seems like many of our readers (who don’t comment but will send kind of nasty emails..:-) that they DON’T believe at all. (and think the whole idea of life after “life” is pretty damn silly as well)
Oh well – I wish more people who DID believe would comment – as otherwise, it appears like I’ve got a whole bunch of angry skeptics who inexplicably read our blogs..:-)
my soulmate was struck by a car 6 months ago while walking into town at nite on a major hiway without warning and passed away tragically . i never got to say goodbye or tell her i love her. then one night about 4 months after her death i had a dream and this was not a normal dream . it was very surreal and amazing !!! she came to me lifted me off my bed into mid air . i was floating . she wrapped her arms around me and spun my blankets around me. we went through walls as if they wernt there and she took me through times in space and realms at lightning speed. she took me to her new home . her new place to show me she ok… and i am so touched here at what she has shown me that i love her and miss her that much more…i love you pauline…my love . my life. my best friend….xoxoxo………..
That’s a great experience, Ron – thanks for sharing it – I’m sure lots of people have had similar ones…..or will find lots of comfort in yours! (sorry for your loss as well…….hopefully your amazing dream will help you realize she’s closer than you realize!)
I believe in an afterlife simply because it seems that flashes of different times or places seem so familiar to my mind without many questions coming to mind. With a fealing of comfort and familurality like that for no apperant reason, it seems only logical that there would be somewhere after this life, if the flashes are from other past lifes.
Thanks, Kevin. There is actually a whole bunch of really good evidence that supports that sort of thing as well – from past life recall in little kids who play musicial instruments, speak foreign languages fluently and describe details of other “lives” that are pretty compelling (and later authenticated to be true) Plus, we all have some “deja vu” as well, I agree – and if you read some books on regression therapy (like “many lives, many masters”) it definitely points to something like what you are referring to as well. (Brian Weiss has written a lot of those books, and he may be controversial, but he’s a pretty smart dude..:-)
HI
I believe there is one. I have had contacts from my daughter who passed away. Dream visits. My son and husband also have had contacts with her in dream visits.
My brother and husband have had Near Death Experiences.
My daughter also has come through in many Medium readings in which there was NO WAY they would have known any deatails.
So.. with that said. I believe!
Hi Saturnstar – I’m sorry to hear about your daughter..:-( But I agree, and have had many similar experiences that leave me very little doubt in the authenticity that “life” continues beyond this one, just in some ways that many of us don’t fully understand! And yes, there is really some incredible research into mediumship that many people are totally unaware of, and I’ve “worked” a little bit with some of the tests in this area, and can tell you there are some pretty “serious” psychics out there who can do some pretty amazing things that defy explanation. (even for smarty pants skeptics who refuse to admit it..:-) Thank you for the comment, and I hope those experiences have given you hope and comfort!
I do believe in an afterlife as I have seen spirits, lived in a haunted house and heard a voice very clearly that has guided me to a situation that needed addressing.
However I do understand why people don’t believe, as we are sold so many lies in this life that we want proof so that we don’t feel that we have been duped again.
I have had my proof, and am very glad of it, but if I hadn’t I would probably be a non believer too !
Thanks for the comment, Angie! I’m glad to see some of the “believers” are coming out of the woodwork..:-) (I was getting worried there for a while that NO one reading had any “faith” in anything other than the body and brain..:-)
I agree with you, too – I’ve had some exceptional experiences that are super hard to explain away (some shared with others which makes the idea of imagination a non -factor) and had it NOT been for those experiences, I certainly would NEVER believe in psychic abilities, mediums, apparitions, Out of body experiences and the rest. Now that I have….I’ve found the RIDE is far more exciting when you’re out there exploring the magic and mystery of the unknown! (and I kinda feel badly for my friends who laugh it all off as nonsense…they don’t know what they’re missing)
I don’t know if it is an ‘afterlife’ or a ‘returning life’… as I do remember things from my past, but not in this life… And, no, not really imagination, as there is no way I could imagine all those (pretty accurate) things when I was 4 years old, so…
Thanks for the comment, and I agree…….memories that seem to transcend this life can be a pretty powerful message that there IS in fact something before (and after) this one..:-)
I believe in Life after death, and feel you will continue to grow even in the Spiritual world. There is so much we don’t understand in are physical body’s but when we do go in the spirit world whether its through astral projection/NDE’s you learn so much more and have a different perspective on life. I have never had any experiences to make me believe in life after death its just something i’ve always known in myself that it cant be the end when you die.
Thanks, Saira – I agree with you 100%, and I’m glad to see so many thoughtful and smart responses thus far!
I absolutely believe in an afterlife. It gives me a great feeling that my loved ones are with me & looking over me (or beside me
!!). I’m sure we are on the same parallel but on another level as they are. I would be so astonished to be able to communicate with them. I really would like to be able to communicate with my sons when I have passed on to the other side. I’m very curious to find out if it is truly so magical & beautiful as people have claimed when they have N.D.E.’s! I can wait my turn though. It does give one something to aspire to, though!
Thank you, Linda for the comment! There are TONS and tons (and tons more..:-) NDE stories online, and as you probably know, many books written about the experience that all “seem” to point to the same sort of beautiful experience. There also is an experiment going on right now, at hospitals around the world, called AWARE – where medical doctors are studying the NDE from the paradigm of “veridical” information that is reported by anyone who reports an NDE after being brought “back”. (they have different targets set up in the rooms, that hypothetically, someone having an out of body experience and looking “down” on their bodies would see…….so we’ll see what happens!)
I have hardly had any experience of the paranormal – no ghost encounters, no OBE story from anyone, no ufo sightings, etc. However, I was born into a culture that accepts reincarnation as part of living. I have not really thought much about spirituality and after-life for the greater part of my life (I am now 54), however, the recent death of Michael Jackson, very strangely, brought me into a passionate search for all things spiritual, including the fact that the soul is eternal, and the world that is and that awaits us when we cross over. As a result, I am no longer afraid of death but see it simply as going home to where I belong and using my remaining tyears to do the best I can on both a personal level, as well as to others, extending help and kindness to my fellow human beings.
May you be blessed with joy and light, always.
Thanks for the very nice comment, Sherry! One of the best benefits that lots of people get from researching this sort of stuff is exactly what you mentioned – a diminished fear of death….and a desire to do more good!
Define afterlife..I believe there is no such thing as time, and that we are all one..Everything happening at once simultaneously. We are all part of everything, therefore are always connected to that.We are one elaborate memory in motion. If we take a photo it tells us a million words, just from one perspective even. I think we are like ‘Everythinks’ photo. One huge memory, able to experience the practical as well as the theory.Like a dream, everyone in it is from or formed from the one mind, everyone being a-part of the one. When we awaken we feel it was momentary..Like that for us is how ourself will feel when awoken again. All an adjective describing ourself and all the possibles we are…All we’ve already done, will do and are also…Time is man made,an experience. From our tiny separate perspectives a photo is small, from our everythings perspective we are a mega depth photo.A glimpse of ourself. In all!We of course have an afterlife, just from a a different perspective…Doesn’t mean we loose any part of ourself..If you like to put it in this way – ‘Created in God’s form’- God is all,and in us all,as we are in God….All a representation, nothing to fear, pain isn’t real, fear isn’t real, only truth is real. All part of what we’ve chosen to be or think or understand..We get closer to the truth and we begin to be creators, further from the truth and begin to be controlled by our fears and abstract thoughts…Only the people close to truth are able to co-create,it’s brilliantly designed,2 steps forward,1step back is always progress.Good is in all,’bad’ is in all,bad ends up being part of good, choice is a learnt art!!
I do believe in life after death. Before now I was a christian only because of my parents, but I never connected with God or Jesus like other christians said they had. Most people said something like thers o much evil in the world for a loving God so Im thinking this intelligence doesnt interfere. I did beleve in God but now its a conscienceness or intelligence. (i’m not really sure how to explain it the intelligence that is on the highest vibrational plane.) And once I can astral project for myself I will find the truth I’m searching for.
Also I got an email talking about creating psi balls. the only reason Im doing any of this is because it will be fun. So im practicing astral projection because most people say that it will give me hightened senses and give me the pyschic abilities I desire.
